Blog Action Day
October 15th is Blog Action Day. So, today’s post is a quick list of the things I’ve done to be more Eco-friendly. To save gas, I ride my motorcycle whenever I can instead of my truck. And my wife and I try to carpool together to save gas too. Other than that, I try to consolidate trips, and only turn on the A/C when I really need it. At the house, we have the thermostat set at 74 in the summer and 68 in the winter. We just wear robes or sweaters inside to stay extra warm. I used a few tubes of caulk (so to speak) and sealed all the cracks in the house: around windows, doors, cables, and even the clothes dryer vent. In the summer we open the windows at night to let the house cool passively. Then we close them in the morning. In winter we open the curtains and shades on the south windows to let the sun heat the house. At night we close the heavy drapes to give extra insulation. I turned the water heater down just a little. Any time a light bulb burns out, we replace it with a CFL. Then there is a slew of small things: cook outside in summer to prevent heating the house, let leftovers cool before putting them in the fridge, turn the water off while brushing teeth, and open shades for light instead of turning on the lights. In the kitchen we buy some organic foods. I’m not much of a vegetable eater, so it doesn’t really matter to me. When it comes to recycling, you pretty much have to do it yourself here in Great Falls, MT. We recycle cans and newspapers. And when we get a bunch of boxes, we’ll drop them off to recycle too. That’s pretty much it. It’s not a lot, but it adds up.
Again, today is Blog Action Day, so if you’re a blogger, post a blog on the environment.
