It's not just you... service really is bad in Great Falls.

I'm a guy that likes to eat, and I like to eat out a lot, because I like the dining experience. It's not that I'm lazy or wealthy, I just like the combination of good food, friends, service, wine, atmosphere, and everything else. So far in my time here in Great Falls, I've been disappointed in the quality of service provided in local restaurants. I'm gonna mention three restaurants here. And when I say my piece, it's still up to you to decide. Elmer's, Jaker's, and Sedgie's... some of the worst service I've ever had. Elmer's is for sale, so maybe they just don't care. It takes forever to get anything there. The last time I ate there was 2 Sep 07, and I'll probably never step foot in there again. I ate at Jaker's today, and me and my wife sat there for ten minutes before anyone asked us if we wanted water. Then my lemonade tasted like pure lemon juice, and the lettuce on the salad bar was brown and soggy. I ate at Sedgie's yesterday just to try it out. I like to support downtown business, and it seems like their location has seen many unsuccessful restaurants. I don't see Sedgie's any differently. Other than putting mushrooms in my chicken alfredo (A mortal sin in my opinion), the service wasn't so bad. But there was a little extra something missing from such a high-priced place. There were water spots on the glasses, and the one page drink menu was in a two page holder. So there's an empty plastic page on one side. On top of that, it's an Italian place right? Where was the festive Italian music? No breadsticks? I know they're not the 'Olive Garden' or anything, but c'mon you gotta have breadsticks at an Italian restaurants. Maybe I'm just too harsh. Maybe every time I go to a restaurant they're having an off day. I dunno. But don't just take my word for it, go see for yourselves.

Yes, Elmer’s and Jaker’s are absolute trash. Been to both, and won’t go back to either.

Sedgie’s on the other hand is a great place to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I’m not just saying this either; I patronize it at least once a week and I’ve yet to have a bad experience. I’ve been to three countries and 35 states, and I believe Sedgie’s to be one of the top restaurants I’ve ever frequented.

Wow, where to begin?

For starters…let’s correct the incorrect information in this article regarding Sedgie’s. It is NOT an Italian restaurant. Not sure why he was under that impression. If anything it’s a mix of many different cultures including Hawaiian and Asian.

Another thing, mortal sins aside, if you don’t like mushrooms in your Chicken Alfredo, mention it to the waitress to let the chef know not to include them. Don’t just forget that step then insult the restaurant. By the way, Sedgie’s uses fresh Shitake mushrooms in their Alfredo which make the dish a cut above the rest! I highly recommend.

The only person who loves Olive Garden more than this guy is Kendra, the twenty-something girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, (watch any episode of the Girls Next Door on E network and you’ll see what I mean) She just can’t shut up about it, kind of like this guy.

While we’re on the subject, Olive Garden throws breadsticks at their customers to fill them up so when their actual entrée arrives they are so full they can’t eat it. Then when they bring it home and warm it up unfortunately it tastes the same as in the restaurant.

As far as picking apart the drink menu holder; I’d much rather have great food and service than worry about how the menu fits into a holder. Plus, they had just opened and every restaurant needs to work out the kinks during the opening weeks.

He mentioned having “some of the worst service I've ever had” in beginning of the article, then says “service wasn't so bad” later on. Make up your mind and stick with your decision.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend a visit to Sedgie’s; and for Josh to give it another chance. Everyone has an “off day”, even a spectacular restaurant.

I did tell her about the mushrooms. I'm not an idiot. I don't expect them to read my mind. I paid top dollar for my meal there, and didn't receive top dollar service or food. It wasn't worth what I paid. I'm not someone who just hates local restaurants out of principle. I love this town and I love to see local places do well. But I'm not going to sacrifice my taste buds or time just to help a local restaurant. I'll go to a place worth the money. And one more thing. Any food that doesn't need light to grow is of the devil.

So, if you told the waitress about the mushrooms and it still came with mushrooms, why not SEND IT BACK?? It's not going to hurt anyone's feelings, Chef may get mad at whoever made the dish or the waitress for not properly convaying the order but really, you are right you paid top dollar, get what you ordered. Fine dining may be too much for some people..but come on, be honest you were expecting americanized bastardized italian food (olive garden) and got what sounds to be an amazing dish even if you have a personal vendeta against mushrooms.

I wasn't in the mood, and by that time, i was pressed for time. I know it's not the right circumstances under which to evaluate a dining experience, but there you have it.
