Strawbale House?
Imagine living in a straw house. The water running inside, the rats, the smell, the fire hazard. Modern strawbale homes (it just sounds weird saying that) have come a long way since the Three Little Pigs. Visit Strawbale.com to learn more, but I'll summarize. Strawbale homes are very eco-friendly because they use waste product as their building material. They are also very energy efficient, quiet, rodent-free, and low-risk for fires. Trying to burn a strawbale house is equated to trying to burn a phonebook with a match. I wonder how well a strawbale house would do up here in Montana. Any thoughts?
It's already being done! Missoula has a house already built. Here's a link to it: http://homeword.org/affhousing/strawbale.htm
And there's a commercial building being built in Helena out of strawbales. Here in Great Falls, we are in the middle of a gold mine of strawbales. This is a cash cow begging to be milked.

Interesting idea. I think it would depend on where in Montana you would want to build. How do they hold up to snow?Wind?
I read a bit of the site you linked here & it is really cool.
Well, the wind I don't know. I think it would block a lot of the noise from the wind. I think it would handle the snow just fine. They typically build strawbale houses with big eaves and overhangs to keep all moisture away from the siding.
