Cold
Cold weather is good up here in Montana. We all hear our parents talk about how brutal the cold used to be. But now, we see a week of temperatures in the fifties in the middle of winter. I've seen a picture of my grandmother when she was a child, standing on top of the snow, sticking her arm out to the side, and touching the top of a telephone pole. Wow! In the Rocky Mountains, it's a concern for many reasons, but one in particular is the Pine Beetles. Apparently, their numbers typically dwindle in winter and increase in spring. The cycle has gone on for centuries. But now, with the arrival of so many mild winters, their numbers are really growing and they are killing pine trees by the thousands. Maybe what we need is a brutal winter or two to put the beetles back in their place.
Thus ends my test of the most boring blog topic in history. Now I'm going to go swallow a bottle of pills.
