Seal your crack
If you haven't taken an hour or two yet this winter to plug up holes in your house, you've wasted a lot of energy. I took some time with my trusty sidearm (a loaded caulk gun) and hunted down all the rogue leaks in my house the other day. I went through two tubes of silicone. I was amazed. I thought I did a pretty good job last time. This time I went to all the windows inside and felt for a draft. Then I went to all the doors, vents, even around the fireplace and floor trim. Next weekend I'm going to insulate the concrete wall under the stairs with some spare carpet pad from our last project. I'll let you know how well it works.
