Help yourself by helping your neighbor

I wrote a piece a while back about helping your neighbor fix up his property. But I think I can go even further with that topic. Just the other day, I had some people come look at one of my listings that happens to be right next door to my own house. I was out mowing the lawn when they showed up, and I gave a friendly wave. Property value increase? Maybe not, but maybe so. I had an old car sitting out front for a while. It ran, and it was cool, but it was an eyesore. So I first put it in a storage unit, then just sold it. Property value increase? My neighbor has been really busy lately, so I've been caring for his lawn. I mow, water, trim, and even clip his hedges. Property value increase? My other neighbor has two trees at the edge of his yard, near my fence. They don't get a lot of water, and they really needed it after the freeze this spring. So I stretched my garden hose across the yard and over the fence to his tree. His trees recovered, and they look great. Propery value increase?

You decide.
