Russia?

I've heard a few people lately talk about how Russia's coming back. They invaded Georgia, they have massive oil and gas wealth, their economy is definately on the rebound, and they have a totalitarian government veiled in democracy and capitalism. They're threatening the global economy and NATO and could shut off the energy supply to Europe.

Well, not really. Since the Soviet Union broke up back in the early 90s, the western world hasn't really just been sitting on it's ass. We brought several more European nations into the NATO alliance. Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and let us not foget all of Germany. We've put missile defense systems in Poland and who knows where else. We've vastly increased the strength of our economies, populations, and militaries. So while it may be an unwise move to jump in and liberate Georgia, it is very possible. And while brinkmanship is a dangerous game, we realized that during the Cuban Missile Crisis, I think it's the Russians who are trembling.
